Feeling lonely?

When you work in software or any other multinational company where you have highly competitive work culture, people feel lonely and get into a SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) state. Here are some tips to overcome loneliness.

  • Start your old hobbies with passion.
  • Never depend on people temporarily because you will feel the blues once they leave you.
  • Write down your memories in a diary.
  • Go out and watch a movie, watch funny clips and cartoons.
  • Talk to your parents for a long time or your wife/girl friend because they won’t feel bored on your words, and even if they are they won’t show it to you :).
  • Walk for some time, Get a camera with you if you have one, take good snaps, review them and try to improve your photography in next shot.
  • Believe in you and don’t forget that you are better than others.
  • Don’t expect your friend to return whatever you give them; let it be priority, importance, care or concentration.
  • Listen to your favorite songs.

I know many of these things are doable other than those which involve others. I can be sure in telling you that sitting alone for sometimes will help you to recollect many important aspects you have achieved in your life time. You will get time to read books, do your personal work if you think being alone will also help. Try sharing your inner self with someone you like most, if you don’t have one mail me. I am serious in telling you to share your worries to someone coz that will reduce the pressure in you, you will get alternatives in your problems and most importantly you will find a way to avoid loneliness by talking to someone.
If you feel like following these try doing at least 3-4 points given in the tips and let me know if it works out. Mail me to dhanus@dhaneshnair.com coz that takes away 5 minutes of your loneliness.

KNOW YOUR VITAMIN - VITAMIN D

Vitamin D, also known as ‘sunshine’ vitamin can be synthesized in the body with the help of sunlight from a precursor that the body makes from cholesterol. Vitamin D is a member of a large and cooperative bone-making and maintenance team composed of nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K, and other compounds. Its special role in bone growth is to make calcium and phosphorus available in the blood that bathes the bones. The bones grow denser and stronger as they absorb and deposit these minerals. Only a few foods supply good amounts of vitamin D especially those derived from animals - egg yolk, liver, fatty fish, butter and fortified milk. Season, geographic latitude, time of day, cloud cover, smog and sunscreen affect UV ray exposure and vitamin D synthesis in the skin. It is important for individuals to get a minimum of 15 minutes of sun exposure on clear days.

OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE MORE LIKELY TO GET ASTHMA

Obese and overweight people are 50 percent more likely to get asthma than those of normal weight. Asthma is an inflammatory disease usually triggered by an allergy that can cause wheezing, coughing and labored breathing that can be life-threatening. Obesity has the capacity to impact lung function in a variety of ways. In obese people the lungs are under-expanded and the size of breaths is smaller. These factors make it more likely that their airways will narrow. There are also changes in the blood levels of hormones derived from fat tissue in the obese that may affect the airways. Losing excess weight is therefore helpful in preventing asthmatic attacks.

ARE YOU HAVING A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP?

Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland in the brain which is produced only in darkness. It plays an important role in sleep, but it may also cut the risk of cancer, help prevent Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and reduce the sagging skin and thinning hair that accompany ageing. Melatonin works by helping to break down the body's active and energetic hormones, slowing brain activity and allowing us to rest. Melatonin's anti-cancer effect may be down to the fact it is a powerful antioxidant which mops up free radicals linked to cancer. There is also mounting evidence to suggest disruption of the melatonin rhythm may lead to chronic fatigue and depression. MAKE SURE YOU GET ADEQUATE SLEEP - 7 to 8 hours per day.

Insufficient Sleep Increases Risk Of Cardiovascular Disease

Chronic sleep deprivation can stress your heart and raise your risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a latest study. The study found that a sleep deficit built up over a few nights can significantly stress the heart. The electrocardiograms revealed that all of the volunteers had a much faster heart beat and significantly less heart rate variability following the nights of sleep deprivation. Heart rate variability describes the naturally occurring beat-to-beat changes in heart rate which reflect the body's adjustment to a host of stresses and stimuli. Reduced variability can be a marker for cardiac problems and has also been linked to high blood pressure. Make sure you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep on most nights for relaxation, rejuvenation and better health.

Soda Linked To Increased Metabolic Syndrome Risk

The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is increased among middle-aged adults who regularly drink carbonated soft drinks (even soda that is calorie-free), new research suggests. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of several cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, excess fat around the abdomen and glucose intolerance, a condition in which the body can no longer process sugar in the blood that often precedes diabetes. Researchers found that the subjects who consumed one or more soft drinks per day had a 48-percent higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome compared to whose who drank less. Drinking soft drinks also increased the incidence of each component of the metabolic syndrome. Reduce your soft drink consumption and switch to healthier beverages to avoid this risk.

DRINKING PLENTY OF WATER HELPS PREVENT KIDNEY STONES

Kidney stones are stones formed from chemicals in urine that crystallize and stick together. Stone formation is a gradual process and the tendency in a susceptible person (such as those with a family history) persists throughout life. Concentrated urine predisposes to stone formation while dilute urine diminishes the chances. Drinking 10-12 glasses of water per day helps to prevent formation of kidney stones. Other fluids like tender coconut water, barley water, fruit juice and light tea can also be had in order to ensure the passage of over 2000 ml of urine per day. The simplest guide is to drink enough fluids to see that the urine is very light in colour. Dilute urine avoids concentration of solids and also tends to make the urine neutral, thus preventing the acid or alkaline reaction which predisposes to precipitation of crystals.

New Series Towards Better Health

Being a Software Engineer by profession, I am much concerned about my health. Most of my time, I just a sit in my chair typing something in the Visual Studio Dev, chat window or mail client . I have managed to reduce my weight to 66 Kg from 76 Kg when I was affected by typhoid. I was so happy about it. But by now i have gained around 7 Kg back. Its around 71 now. Being lazy i don't do any exercise too. Only thing I can do is to control my diet.

Normally I wake up at 6.30 Am in the morning(some times at 7.30 Am) and my planned* day begins with TimesNow(Indian English News channel) for half an hour and Bed Coffee. By Seven I start practicing flute for 15 minutes and another 15 minutes for chanting. After I will change the channel to Zoom and MTV and will dance for half an hour. Then do the rest of preparation to office. By 9.00 I will reach office and after that no movement. Now you could have imagined, how my weight is getting increased by this extend.

In an unplanned day I will make sure that I will get up 7.30. Mandatory things in any days is 30 Mins Times Now, Min 15 min dance practice [ Not Bharathanatyam.. Normal Aerobics Step :-) ] .. I know this will never help me to reduce my weight. My body mass index is proper but I wish it to be perfect. So only thing i can do is to control my diet.

I know you are also worried about your slightly growing tummy.. for some one full grown Big Tummy and being lazy by nature I think some of you will not be interested in doing exercise too. So i am starting a new series called Health Tips in my blog which will give you some tips about the diet which you have to take and side effects of the deit you are consuming now.
