Karayuvathenthinu Meere,
Nin Kannan ille chare,
Karmukhilvarnante hirdhayathin ragamay,

Parayeduppu - Traditional way of providing offerings to God

In Kerala there is a traditional way of providing offerings to Gods. This tradition was not so common in our area, but it was started as a part of annual celebration of Lord Shiva Temple, Ilampalamukhu. Only a part of the procession came to my home, as it is difficult for them to bring all those people and vehicles here.

Thidampu (Represents Lord Shiva's Idol) is taken in an elephant with tharapoli, horse and other art forms like karakattom, mayilattom, koodiyattom accompanies the Idol. Priest performs pooja and finally he will offer the fruits, banana and other articles to God. Remaining is called prasadam, in which a part is taken and given to the elephant. "Para" is a measuring device used to calculate the amount of "Rice Grains". "Yeduppu" Means to take or to accept. This is my version on translation. May be a chance that it will be different in different communities and other parts of kerala.
